Food-grade and feed-grade taurine powder. Minimum 1 bag (25 kg) — no procurement complexity, no contract lock-in. Shipped across the EU by DSV road freight with full documentation included.
Taurine (2-aminoethanesulfonic acid, CAS 107-35-7) is a non-proteinogenic sulfur amino acid that occurs naturally in muscle tissue, the brain and bile. Unlike conventional amino acids, it is not incorporated into protein chains — which makes it uniquely functional as a standalone bioactive ingredient.
Its primary roles in formulation are osmotic regulation (stabilising intracellular fluid balance), membrane stabilisation in cardiac and retinal tissue, bile acid conjugation, and modulation of neurotransmission. These properties underpin its use in energy drinks, pet food, aquafeed and infant formula across the EU and globally.
Commercial taurine is produced exclusively by chemical synthesis — not extracted from animal bile as was historically the case. This makes it suitable for vegan formulations and eliminates traceability concerns around animal-derived raw materials.

Taurine is one of the most widely used functional ingredients across food, beverage, pet nutrition and pharmaceutical sectors. Its high aqueous solubility, thermal stability and regulatory acceptance make it a workhorse additive.
Taurine is the standard functional active in mainstream energy drinks (Red Bull, Monster and equivalents). Acts as an osmoregulator and complements caffeine's stimulant profile. Excellent acid stability (pH 2.5–4.5 range), no flavour contribution, fully soluble at 1–4 g/L.
Used in pre-workout formulas, intra-workout drinks and recovery products. Supports cell hydration and electrolyte balance during exercise; reduces exercise-induced oxidative stress. Compatible with creatine, BCAAs and beta-alanine in multi-ingredient stacks.
Cats cannot synthesise taurine endogenously and require dietary supplementation — deficiency leads to retinal degeneration and dilated cardiomyopathy. Dogs on grain-free or plant-protein diets may also require supplementation. EU regulations mandate taurine in complete cat food.
In aquaculture, taurine is essential for carnivorous fish species (salmon, sea bass, sea bream) when fishmeal is replaced by plant proteins. Supports bile acid conjugation, feed intake, and intestinal development in larvae and juveniles.
Taurine is added to infant formula to replicate concentrations found in human breast milk (3–7 mg/100 mL). Critical for bile acid conjugation, retinal and brain development in neonates. Subject to strict EU regulatory limits.
Capsule, tablet and powder supplement formats for cardiovascular, neurological and metabolic health. High solubility (100 g/L water) allows formulation in liquid supplements. Low hygroscopicity relative to dose range aids tablet compression.

Taurine has established regulatory status in the EU across multiple product categories. Always verify the current applicable regulation for your specific formulation and target market.
Taurine is an established functional ingredient in energy drinks across the EU. No specific EU-wide maximum has been set; standard food safety principles under Reg. (EC) 178/2002 apply. Labelling must accurately reflect content per serving.
Taurine is listed as an optional ingredient in infant formula and follow-on formula under Regulation (EU) No 609/2013. Maximum level: 12 mg/100 kcal. Only food-grade taurine with full purity documentation is appropriate.
Taurine is included in the EU register of nutrient sources under Regulation (EC) No 1925/2006 on addition of vitamins and minerals to foods. Health claim authorisation is product- and claim-specific under Reg. 1924/2006.
Taurine is mandated in complete cat food under EU feed legislation (Reg. 767/2009). Feed-grade taurine is used in dog food, aquafeed, and other species-specific diets. Feed-grade COA documentation available on request.
Taurine does not have a general E-number in the EU food additive system. It is classified as a food ingredient / nutrient substance — not as a preservative, emulsifier, or colour. It does not require E-number labelling.
Taurine is typically classified under HS code 2922.49 (other amino-compounds). The CN 8-digit code for EU import declarations should be confirmed with your customs broker prior to shipment. Country of origin China for most commercial material.
